FTP Client

Anyone able to recommend a good freeware FTP client?

I had been using SmartFTP, but it is whining to me about needing a registration code now so apparently it was expireware.

All my work stuff I do via a VPN connection so I hadn't even realized that my FTP client has futzed out on me. Had done a little work on my website but can't move the files up to see if the PHP bits work right. Frustrating.

On lighter notes, spending some of today day doing some sketching. Was going to ink and scan in (or scan in and play with inking in Photoshop) some older stuff I'd drawn but couldn't decide where to start.

So I ended up working on a sketch of a team logo for my hattrick team instead. Will have to cough up the twenty bucks to get a supporter account and access to the 'bonus' features like adding a logo to my team, and choosing the colors of their match kit, but pondering it because it also adds in a couple of nice statistics pages and some just useful stuff like bookmarking other teams and players so I don't have to do a search for them again. Definately not needed to play, and I'll probably put off doing it until I finish work on a logo that I feel like sharing / showing off.

But a relatively relaxed day today. Nice to get a chance to chill out and just be creative and have fun for a while with some of my personal work. Especially since I am apparently expected at some family gathering thing-a-ma-jigger this weekend. Ugh.

I've yet to find an FTP client that I reliably like.

FireFTP is an extension for Firefox that works okay.

I have a very old copy of WS_FTP I still use -- fast and snappy, though with a decade-old interface and odd clumsiness.

I've used Filezilla, which is a freeware open source project. I've used SmartFTP. Both ended up having a couple of oddities that I didn't care for (don't recall offhand what they were).

Heck, sometimes I use the Explorer interface for FTP functions.

I'll be watching to see what answer you come up with. :-)

I snagged a new install of SmartFTP, but for some reason it didn't copy my settings from the original version ( now on 2.0 or some such ) and it won't connect to my server.

I may go and find my old WS_FTP LE installer, or see if they have a newer one up since technically my website isn't a business and may, occasionally, eventually, provide some educational content so I can sort of qualify under their license for free usage.

I still need to snag Firefox, need to remember to visit your site ***Dave and do that, so I may try the FireFTP extension still (also I want to try FireTrick, the Hattrick extension).

But no definate answer yet. Irritating. Such a simple concept "move files from place A to place B" and so many crap pieces of software with clunky UIs to do it with.
