Frick Damn Gyah

Ranting about 'The Feast of Lupernacus' will be delayed until later today.
Too tired and worn out to rant well at the moment.

Short synopsis of the last 20 hours:
(1) Went to pick up a server for the intranet install I have this upcoming weekend. Server turned out to be a box of parts I'll need to assemble. Frick. That doubled the amount of time it is going to take to prep it for the weekend.

(2) Had a bunch of friends over last night, watched bad movies, talk went around to 'spleens' at one point and the girl friend of one of them (a grad student at OHSU) was kind enough to point out that a single nasty strain of pneumonia would kill someone without a spleen before they realized they were sick.

(3) Woke up this morning with a headache behind my eyes. Reminded of all of the fun fear of going blind leftover from when I had a retinal detachment years ago. Reminded me that I have to update my will since it has been a while since I looked at it.

(4) Discovered this hissing sound in my house, which turned out to be my water heater's cold water pipe having sprung a leak and being in the process of flooding my basement. Hoping duct tape repair will work since if I bring it up to the landlord, he'll probably decide that this would be a good time to re-model and sell the place and I really don't want to have to find a new apartment in mid-February.

On that rather whiny and bitchy note, enjoy a few links about American politics as written by a British newspaper:

And before anyone things the British are doing all that much better with civil liberties then we are (okay, they haven't gone quite as far as the Patriot Act, yet) they are in the process of passing through a law making it a crime to speak well of terrorism or terrorists.

Oh, and back in America, be careful if you have a laser pointer at the airport as you may under the by-lines of the Patroit Act be committing a terrorist act and get 20 years in prison.

Well, that's not *quite* what the story says, but having a laser pointer at an airport may cause extra scrutiny (that nobody wants), and actually pointing it at an airplane might have unfortunate law enforcement results.

Frankly, I'd be more worried about the "glorification of terrorism" bill than the laser pointer thang.

True, but the 'glorification of terror' bill is in Britain and our American 'Patriot Act' has wording that could be interpreted in much the same way ( is giving assistance to terrorists possible by saying 'Maybe they have a reason for being pissed?' ). The most recent version of it being pushed back through again is really the exact same bill as last time with some cosmetic re-wording to try to make it a bit less of a bitter pill to swallow without actually changing any of the granted powers in it.
