Bu-da-wha-huh?
So my semi-senile/faking-being-very-senile grandmother got me a Border's giftcard for Christmas. Have to do some clothes shopping tonight ( start of the new year is also closet cleaning time for me, tend to toss anything I haven't worn in a year and that means needing new clothes ( don't ask, brain works in weird ways ( okay, I actually didn't do this the last couple years so I have a lot of hideous stuff from my time in NC to get rid of and that has me realizing how few clothes that I actually like to wear I own ))) and was going to swing by Border's while out.
Normally she gets me a Powells gift card which is nice because they have the god-damned coolest selection and I tend to loose myself for hours there, not sure why she didn't this year.
Anyways, had just hit the Borders website because I wanted to see if a couple books I knew were out were in paperback yet, and to remind myself as to what all Borders actually might stock since I tend to forget whether they carry a couple small-press publishers I like or not, and I find that I am at the Amazon.com website instead. Er.. Huh? At some point along the way they partnered and I just never noticed. Weird. Wine.com (whose website I built back when they were still called eVienyard.com) partnered with Amazon mid-last year as well.
Starting to think that someday soon I'll turn my computer on and find Amazon.com owning every ecommerce site I ever visit. Evil monolith in the making? Corporate monoculture at work? Or just a very savvy web-marketing strategy with a robustly coded back-end?

Amazon.com has taken over a LOT of sites, that's for sure. I've wondered about the monopoly issue, myself. Did a lot of catalog shopping this Xmas, and found myself back at good old Mother Amazon several times.
