Tactics

So on the phone the other night with a couple of friends, and while I was rambling for a moment about Civilization the game of X-Com was brought up.

X-Com was a truly addictive game and really the start of my strategy / tactical gaming.

And the moment I typed that I knew it was wrong. It was the start of my playing those types of games on the computer ( or console ) but thinking about it... Risk, Stratego, Axis & Allies, Battlesystem for AD&D, Battletech, Star Fleet Battles, and a number of civil war board games all pre-dated my having ever played X-Com.

But for some reason ( well, a simple reason ) X-Com stands out in my head as the start of my tactical gaming ( largely because it was one damned cool game ).

This has lead to me played all sorts of other computer games like it, Final Fantasy Tactics ( single most played Playstation game I own ), Final Fantasy Tactics Advance ( same thing, for my Gameboy Advance ), Disgaea, La Pucelle Tactics, Kessen and Kessen 2, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Ogre Battle, etc.

Mostly me rambling, but in the course of thinking about it and rambling today it also brought to mind Necromunda which is a really fun little squad based gang-war game set in the Warhammer 40k setting.

Not sure why I like all these types of game, but I really do. This is just a post of me rambling and gushing about them I suppose. Done now.

Yep, Necromundo is fun. It's the game we tend to play when the adiquait members of the D20 group show up.

Do you use the old rules or the new living rulebook off of the specialist games website? I have the hardbound version of the old rulebook that included the Outlander rules in it.

Haven't played in years, actually sold my minis for it a while back and really miss the game. Was just fun with all the little stories that would come out of the fights, things about your one-eyed, lobo-chipped, ganger named Thunk with the hatred for the juve that did him wrong.

Ummm...

Sadly I have no clue. Others are in charge of that, and I just do what I am told to do.

The books are newish, and we have our little gangs that we upgrade and buy skills for the ones that live if that helps.

*laughs* No, it doesn't really help. Though it is cool to hear about someone playing the game with the campaign rules.

The books being 'newish' does though. Likely that is the new version of Necromunda, "Necromunda: Underhive" then.

The older hardback had yellow and black stripes around the border of the covers.

What gang do you play around with? I used to like Van Saar and the Ratskin Renegades from the Outlanders book. Not sure who I'd want to play with the rule revisions and the House Weapon Lists now.

Ok, then we must be using new copies of the last revision then.

I think that I am either Orlok or Van Saar.

Huh. Stll have my copy of X-Com. Loved that game! Hearing the boots clank on the gangplank or crunch in the sand was too cool back then!

Was that before or after Dune II?

Before Dune 2 I believe. Had almost forgotten about that game.

Okay....

*actually* Played Necromunda tonight so I now know what my Gang is.

Escher.

Old Books.

currently the gang is at 1793 points:

1 Leader, ! heavy, 6 Gangers, 1 Juve.

1 of the gangers founf Plasma Grenades in one scenerio, so that is great fun. The Heavy has a Heavy Plasma cannon...which everyone seems to forget until the first salvo. :D
