The words were in an obscure dialect, one not spoken in centuries. It's speakers had died out long ago, supposedly due to some poorly documented plague or pestilence that had struck them all down. Which was quite unfortunate, since the source of that extermination was about 40 feet tall, very unhappy, and recently summoned from the 'Outer Dark' and the incantation to return him was only recorded in their ancient written script.

It was faint, barely noticible in the corner of the painting, but Anna saw it, and knew this portrait was the long-lost "Emma" by obscure Renaissance artist Johannes Givionna. What a find!
