Political Humor and Blargh

Been a bit of an insomniac lately, been staying up late even though I've rather tired at night, just haven't been able to get to sleep easily. So I've been watching The Daily Show and, starting this week, The Colbert Report at night.

The Daily Show continues to be fiendishly funny and often rather biting as it mocks current news reports and political events. They had a fun bit tonight about the recent Supreme Court nominations and another decent bit about The Commander in Chief ( undecided if I like that show yet or not ) and the possibility of a female president.

The Colbert Report has been decent as well. Not great yet, not the level of humor or polish that The Daily Show has, but it shows some potential. It is a bit funnier if you have ever sat through some of the real political pundit programs on TV and realize just where some of the mockery is directed at and coming from.

In my currently copious spare time I've been working on helping setup a gaming project. Don't really want to talk much about it yet, but it has been somewhat frustrating. Idea really has potential, fun group of people who could potentially be involved, but because of personal issues between some people, a degree of grudge-holding, and just some knee-jerk snippiness from people it may fall apart under it's own weight before it manages to take off and even really get started. Kind of disappointing to see.

Actually, frustrating as much as disappointing I think. One of the people who I enjoy playing with, though I don't get the chance to that often due to the way we usually end up teaming up when we are both on and playing, has already pulled out and that is a disappointing loss already. I can understand why he did though, and I can't necessarily say that I have behaved better then the people he is likely frustrated with ( Assuming I am not one of them.. ) but it isn't just in loosing him from it that bugs me. It is the fact that it happened before things even really have gotten started that makes me think it doesn't necessarily bode well for the future.

To make matters worse, I volunteered to do leader'ish things. I can't tell if I have a viciously wicked desire to martyr myself or if I am just still bitter about the fortune cookie I got a while back that said "You have already done everything that will ever be expected of you" which I always figured meant "Stick a fork in you, you are done". No clue how things will work out. I guess only time will tell.

The Fortune Cookie: Obviously, it means you're already ahead the karmic curve and everything (including the new thing) that you do for people only gets you futher into the highest percentile of Cool People (tm).

The blargh: sorry about all of that. The fact of the matter is that it had nothing at all to do with you. Some folks want to run it like a little monarchy, and I'm not much for putting my head down and pulling the plow. Frankly, it's why I don't have anyone important in the SG this leadership style is based on.

Some problems are with folks forming a lot of opinions based on the forums (a lousy recording device and only marginally better communication tool), and no time in the game actually interacting with the people about whom they've spent so much time forming opinions. I'm no problem with their inability to play -- but I do when they try to force an opinion down my throat with nothing relevant to back it up.

Dunno. Lots of fear and ignorance. One day in this 'happy fun' setup felt about the same as a medium-bad day on the Leadership boards. That was off-putting enough by itself, and made me wonder a bit about the real sources of the problems there as well.

Wow. Sorry for cluttering up the comment box.

You've got my email address Doyce. If you want to visit about concerns you’re having, why not email or private message me directly? Talking about someone in comments to someone else's blog doesn’t seem an especially appropriate forum for a back and forth.

I’m not going to muddle things further here by adding any more detailed a response beyond the fact that I wasn’t forcing my opinion down anyone’s throat. I was sharing my opinion, just like you have shared your own opinions about others numerous times both recently and over the past year (folks that give you hives, for a recent example?).

*laughs* Actually I am somewhat amused by this in general, though I am somewhat curious what I missed in the deleted comment in the middle.

I do have to admit that I started getting concerned at about the point where the focus of the conversation shifted from "Who do we want involved and how do we recruit them?" to "Who do we not want involved and how do we keep them out?" which I am probably to blame for as much as anyone else in the shift in tone, but it was a somewhat non-positive thingy to me when I realized that was the road / detour we had suddenly started down.

*shrugs* But then, I am used to ignoring people who irritate me because... Damn... Otherwise I would have gone crazy with the "Kick - Ban - Goodbye!" button a while ago.

Which does have me feeling somewhat hypocritical given that I posted a few people that I was less then interested in seeing to the banned thread as well... *sighs* I love having standards of behavior I can't even hold myself up to...

So curious. Will you catch me up with all the good gossip when I come home? I'm willing to shell out for a phone call and everything!

The gossip is at points more frustrating then good.

Actually, the lack of pretty much anyone saying anything about anything over the weekend is frustrating as well.

Oh well. Looking like from one project / grouping it has split into two. Just no clue how that is going to be organized in a nice / polite manner.

At this point, I think it'll basically be two seperate groups when everything gets started connected by a shared line of communication and it'll just get organized by whoever press-gangs people in fastest.
