Edit: The word for Octo 28 was 'Cross'.
It was once a random place for me to post random things while I wondered if I will ever get hythia.com back up and online. Now it is obsolete as hythia.com is running again.

The two little pieces of wood he was holding were a futile shield from the creatures preternatural anger. A fist grabbing them and smashing them to splinters, gibbering in fear as he backed away from the creature he has vainly been trying to ward off, "Why? Why didn't it work!"
The creature of the night cackled for a moment, its voice ancient and angry as it whispered, "Because I am a buddhist."

For some reason, the idea of a buddhist vampire not fearing a crucifix amused the heck out of me as I wrote this. Now I look at is and think, "What was I thinking?"

That was one of the funny bits from the movie Fright Night. You had to believe for the cucifix to work.

She stared up at the cross on the wall while Sister Mary Margaret droned on about diagramming sentences. Was it wrong to think Jesus looked... well... a little sexy? She'd been stuck in Catholic school for ages, pondering the rights and wrongs of it all.

It has always concerned me. I mean, if you want to get all historical about it, and consider the background of Romania and Transylvania when Vlad was around -- why isn't it a Jewish star that repels vamps?
But I like the idea that the cross only bothers vamps who fear it.

Yeah, honestly. If you had to believe in the symbol of faith that was being used to repel a vampire, I'd have to carry an optical mouse around with me or something.
Though I would be amused by seeing an economist try to repel a vampire with a dollar bill, "So little economist.. Do you really believe that is going to keep its value despite inflation... *fang* *suck* *suck* *burp*"

The crucifix sat on the still chest.
The little girls sat in terror of getting out of there seats without permission. Each of them fearing the wrath of Sister Mary Assumpta. The ones in the front row were fairly sure that the Nun had died while grading the quizzes, but none of them were willing to test that theory out. She could be faking, or baring that, she might be able to punish them from beyond the grave.
The little Irish girl that thought that Jesus was sexy was now busy crossing herself and saying our fathers as fast as she could. At this rate, she might set a land speed record for saying the Century.
And yet, they remained seated….fearing the dead more then the living.
Riffing a bit off of KTbuffy’s story, which reminded me of a story from my Step-Mothers childhood
