Three hours
So I know I've been writing about it a lot lately, I normally would have more randomness or more talk about books or movies or comics or video games going on, but having twenty-six staples in ones gut and a hand in a splint does tend to dominate ones thinking.
Three hours until my appointment back up at OHSU where I will find out what is going to be done about my hand. Broken fifth metacarpal bone, basicaly the pinky bone, and its been in a splint but they mentioned it may take surgery to straighten out and fix. They also mentioned the possibility of it being in a cast for a while. Personally, I am hoping that they look at it, deem the splint good enough, give me a more comfortable splint and that is that.
Eight days until staples come out still.

Funny story about when I broke my finger... first of all, I managed to do by bumping into a guy nicknamed Tigger, and if that wasn't bad enough, we were on a jumping castle at a carnival thingie in college. And that's not even the funny part -- I think it was Halloween, and I know I was hosting a party in my apartment that evening, and what with the copious amounts of alcohol on top of whatever fine quality drugs they gave me at the emergency room, to this day I have no memory of which finger I broke.
Which, now that I think of it... may not be so much funny as it is... sad.
What was the point of my comment? Oh yeah, fingers heal nicely with splints. I can't even tell whihc one I broke now.

Also, watch out for grown men named Tigger.

Good news, it is healing nicely.
Bad news, it isn't quite healing straight.
Worse news, it has healed so much now that to fix it would involve slicing open my hand, breaking the bone again, and putting in metal pins to hold it straight while they kept a cast on it.
Irritating news, the numbness in my thumb is because the first splint they put on me in the ICU actually damaged the nerve on my thumb but it should heal back to normal in another month or two.
My decision, happy with it healing a little crooked even though it means a slightly higher chance of arthritis down the road at the intersection of my pinky bone and wrist.
Final result, new splint that I have for another month, but this one is trimmed back enough that my fingers are actaully free to type at my normal speed again and it is just immobilizing my left wrist joint.

To my knowledge, I have never broken a bone. Strange, isn't it? And we'll take a shot at getting your mind off of things. Tell me about your comix collection.
