Stumptown Comics Fest 2005
I'll be away from my desk for most of the day on the 1st of October for the Stumptown Comics Fest 2005. Missed it last year by dint of not having heard about it until after it had happened. But should be fun this year.
Been to a couple comics shows in the past in Portland. Usually they have been a couple artists, a couple people showing off art or trying to sell their indie comics, and a truly sick number of comic shops trying to sell back issues or merchandise. Liking this one as from the look of the exhibitors list, it is almost entirely comic creators or publishers.
Among the tables I want to see are: R. Stevens who does the web-comic Diesel Sweeties ( two great recent strips "Fifty States, Fifty Slogans" and " Ypsilanti Dreamin'" ), Steve Rolston who did some great art for Queen & Country, the Oni Press table as they publish Queen & Country and some other great titles like Courtney Crumrin which I think someone recommended in a comment a few posts back, and Top Shelf Productions has a table which I will probably swing by to look at Monkey vs Robot, Creature Tech and Surrogates at least. Bunch of other exhibitors too, they actually sold out / reserved out all of the exhibit tables already so should be lots to see at least.
If anyone wants to take a look at the exhibitors list and tell me that I am an idiot and that I absolutely must go see some table or another, please do. I know I am a bit out of touch as to what all is coming out these days and what is and isn't worth reading.

Crumrin was me... :)
Sounds like a great time...and some fun folks to meet.

The one that kind of irritates me is that Dark Horse isn't there.
I grew up in Milwaukie, a suburb of Portland, and the comic shop I grew up going to ( then called "Pegasus Books", now called "Things From Another World" and now owned by Dark Horse ) is across the street from the offices of Dark Horse Comics. Kind of disappointing that they couldn't show up at a comic con in their own dang city.
