The body shook one last time. Its breath exhaled, the tremor running through its limbs. Its final death rattle announcing the end of a lifelong battle against entrophy, the end of a fight against the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Finally ceasing to spit defiance at the universe, no longer seeker eternity and immortality. Death. Peace. An end.

At 11:00pm the death rattle started, I did not want to be there for that. I wanted to be as far away from that noise as I could be.

The next morning I recieved the call, he had died, peacefully, with what I would assume was a far from legal amount of Morphine in his system to kill the pain.

It was my task to call my Step-sisters...to let them know...and to help get the shell dressed and ready for cremation.

It was done.

Rattle and Hum. Wow. Good times. Celeste remembered the concert... or rather, she remembered NOT remembering the concert. There was something in the air, something that Barry bought from his friend John, or Bob, or someone. All she knew was she'd been -this- close to Larry Mullen Jr.

It is interesting at times how similar or how different our takes are on some of the words. BD and I write about 'death rattles', while ktbuffy writes about a U2 concert.

Odder still....I was going to write about Rattle and Hum first, but went with that one instead.

But usually you two are in sync, and I am the odd one out.

I wrote what I did, and about halfway through was thinking 'Geez, baby rattles or even rattle snakes would have been a lot more cheerful.'

We were all pretty much on the same page with the vein/vain stuff though, which I thought was fun. But yeah, I look forward to seeing how we all interpret the word.
