She didn't think of herself as vain. Hours spent on hair and make-up, paying professionals to find the perfect shades for her. Clothing tailored by professionals, manicures, pedicures, botox, personal trainers. None of it was vanity, just the eternal human search for perfection.

The Duck weather vain spun directionless as the gusts of autumn swirled and blew. Bouncing between north and south, as if it could not make up its mind if it was spring or fall.
